This is the first certification that one achieves before earning the rest of the Lean Six Sigma certifications. Thus, earning it is the first step towards learning the Six Sigma methodology. The Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belts understand the basics of Lean enterprise concepts and have the ability to identify non value-added activities and elements. They are also skilled to use specific tools. The holders of this certification have team leadership qualities, understand team dynamics, and are able to assign team members responsibilities and roles.
There are no special requirements to achieve this credential. One prerequisite is to pass the IASSC Certified Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt certification exam with an adequate score. The candidate must get at least 230 points. The highest possible score is 300 points. Even though there are no requirements for taking this exam, the students are recommended to get Lean Six Sigma training that should be taken through a recognized and qualified institution.
The IASSC exam consists of multiple-choice and true or false questions, which are computer-based. It is a closed book test. There are 60 questions, and the candidates are required to attempt all of them. The exam takes two hours. It covers various areas, including organization-wide planning, organizational process measures and management, and team management. Its testing centers are located in 165 countries around the world.
The Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt certification is not valid forever once achieved. It is usually valid for 3 years. Therefore, the Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belts must be recertified every three years to maintain the validity and integrity of the credential.
